Kickin' Ash With Kayla: John Bull Prime Minister Cigar Review

John Bull Cigar

John Bull Prime Minister Cigar Construction

The John Bull Prime Minister is a thick, brutish stick, from its thick ring gauge to its cranky-looking English Bull Dog on the band. The 54 ring gauge stick is sheathed in a creamy colored Ecuadorian grown Connecticut seed wrapper. The wrapper leaf is smooth with few veins but a couple of minor water spots.

The length of the seven inch stick is plump and nicely filled with a mix of Nicaraguan and Dominican filler. There are no noticeable soft spots. The double cap is squarely mounted and cuts cleanly with my punch cutter.

Flavor & Cold Draw

The pre-light aroma is mild and creamy. The Ecuadorian Connecticut wrapper gives off a gentle bouquet of cedar and vanilla while the foot lends a bit of nutmeg and dried fruit. The cold draw is clear and creamy. Once lit, the first few puffs are filled with a strong black pepper flavor as well as a natural creamy sweetness. The pepper fades quickly allowing notes of cream and oats to steal the focus. The natural sweetness intensifies towards the end of the final third. The middle third is super mild with subtle oats and lots of sweetness. The pepper flavor resurges in the final third along with a bit of peppermint on the back of the palate.

Burn & Smoking Characteristics

The draw on the John Bull Prime Minister is a bit tight but still produces ample smoke with each puff. The burn is incredibly slow, with a total burn time of one hour and thirty-five minutes. The burn is perfectly even and produces a beautiful light grey ash. The ash drops consistently after about an inch-and-a-half with a total of four drops during the entire smoke.

Conclusion

The John Bull Prime Minister Cigar is definitely not for those smokers who lean towards full strength, full flavored cigars. It is a perfect stick for those who are looking for an inexpensive everyday smoke to enjoy with their morning coffee. I prefer stronger sticks so I found the flavor a bit boring but the burn was beautiful.
