Divisional Playoff Round NFL Picks
Man do I love the playoffs! You could sum-up wild card weekend in one phrase: farewell to home field advantage! I cannot remember when 3 out of the 4 road teams won in a playoff weekend. Plus, the only home team that did win, needed the 2nd biggest comeback in playoff history. I told you that Andrew Luck was special and he would be the difference in the game. I also said that the Chargers vs. Bengals game was going to come down to one player: Andy Dalton. Needless to say, he did not have his best performance and the Bengals were one and done again this season. However, I am not sure the entire blame needs to be placed on Dalton. If I was a Bengals fan, I would be screaming for Marvin Lewis to be fired. How do you have an offensive game plan to throw the ball to A.J. Green only 3 times?
Can you believe the Saints went into Philly and won outdoors–in the cold? I don’t feel bad about missing that one in my predictions because EVERYONE outside of New Orleans thought they would lose that game. My Super Bowl prediction is still alive! San Francisco survived the frozen tundra of Lambeau field and won a very tough, physical, and cold football game. I didn’t think Kaepernick played especially well, but he was good enough to beat Rogers at home, and that is no easy task! They arguably have the best defense still playing, although Seattle may have a little something to say about that. We will see when game time comes! Alright enough talk about last week. Now let’s look into the crystal football and predict what will happen in this round.[table “” not found /]
Score Prediction: Seahawks 28 – Saints 17 17
Can the Saints recreate the magic that they had last weekend in Philly? Sean Payton is one of the best coaches in the league right now, and Drew Brees is an all-time great–hall of fame caliber–quarterback. However, don’t forget that Seattle is a great team! The Saints have to play in one of the toughest stadiums (as far as noise) ever built. The Saints Defense, although much improved under Rob Ryan, still has to deal with Russell Wilson, Marshawn Lynch, and the Saint’s offense against Seattle’s Defense; Seattle has the advantage. Score Prediction: Patriots 31 – Colts 24
I am a huge fan of Andrew Luck, so I believe his Super Bowl will come one day (just not this season). I don’t see him being ready to go into Gillette stadium (in this weather), and beat one of the greatest quarterbacks in my generation. I think he is going to have to wait for Brady and Manning to retire before he will get his ring! Nobody is picking New England to go to the Super Bowl this year, which is just the way Brady and Belichick like it. This is the type of New England team that could go all the way; it would not shock me at all. [table “” not found /]
Score Prediction: 49ers 31 – Panthers 10
Everything tells me this game should not be close. I understand the Panthers beat them this season in San Francisco, but this is Cam Newton’s first playoff ride. I think the 49ers are playing the best football of any team in all three phases of the game (Offense, Defense, and Special Teams). I just don’t think this will be a close one; I see the 49ers creating some turnovers, controlling the clock with Gore, and Kaepernick running the ball well. Plus, they will still get an explosive play or two from Vernon Davis, Boldin, and Crabtree, which will start to run the score up; taking away any chance for a comeback from Carolina. Score Prediction: Broncos 42 – Chargers 14
How in the world is San Diego still in this? They are clearly the worst team left in the playoffs who are about to go against an unstoppable juggernaut. I know that the Chargers won in week 15, but there is nobody living outside of the San Diego area who thinks they have a prayer in this game. Peyton Manning will destroy them and Denver will host the AFC championship next weekend.
