The Hydra LG Electronic Cigar Humidifier is perfect for humidors that hold about 1000 cigars up to about 5000 or 6000 cigars. The hydra unit itself includes the control top, water cartridge, a wired control unit, power cord and ribbon cable with an adapter.
To use the Hydra unit, take the control top off and fill the water cartridge with distilled water only – you don’t want to use propylene glycol or any other kind of water, just distilled water. You’re going to fill the water cartridge and let is sit for about 10-15 minutes so that the foam absorbs all of the water. Then you’ll want to turn the water cartridge upside-down and let all of the standing water drain out of it.
Slide the control top back onto the water cartridge and connect the adapter and ribbon cable. Then, plug the power cord into the other end of the adapter. On the back of the Hydra unit, there is a port where you plug the ribbon cable into. What’s nice about the ribbon cable is that it is paper-thin and can slip through a hinge or the back of a humidor but will not affect the seal at all – making it easy to get power to the unit inside the humidor.
You can mount the wired control unit with the attached sticky-back anywhere inside of your humidor. The wired control unit will do the same thing as the controls on the top of the unit. To turn the unit on, push the power button and you’ll see the current temperature, current humidity and desired humidity display on the wired control unit. You can change from Celsius to Fahrenheit by pressing the temperature button and the plus and minus button will change the desired humidity level. This unit will turn itself on and off to reach and keep the desired humidity level.
On the control top, there is a small adjustment knob – you should never need to use this. However, if you find that the humidity level is a couple of percentage points off, you can turn the adjustment knob to calibrate the unit – clockwise to increase and counterclockwise to decrease.
When the water cartridge runs low, there will be an audible alarm. To turn the alarm off, press the button on the side of the unit to turn the alarm off. If you want to disable the alarm altogether, there is a switch on the back of the unit near the port where you plug the ribbon cable in.
The other side of the unit has two ports – a fan port and a DC out. These are for adding extra fan kits to the unit.
