Construction:
Copious amounts of rich Nicaraguan long filler come nestled in an exquisite, toasted caramel colored wrapper. The wrapper is toothy with a slight oily sheen to it. The cigar is perfectly wrapped with no soft spots but it has a disappointingly thin cap.
Flavor & Cold Draw:
The pre-light aroma is predominantly vegetative with a glimmer of coffee bean. The cold draw is acutely spicy with remnants of oak. In the first third the flavor profile is dominated by the taste of red pepper. In the second third there is a vague hint of espresso but it is overwhelmed by pepper. The pepper dissipates in the final third leaving room for rich, flavorful tobacco and leather.
Burn & Smoking Characteristics:
The burn is exceptionally even and slow leaving a compact, snow white ash. The draw is clear and smooth, producing tons of smoke.
Conclusion:
The Don Pepin Cuban Classic is just that… a Cuban classic. It is a strong, fiery, full bodied smoke but as with most Nicaraguan puros, it is a bit one-dimensional.
