Cigar: 5 Vegas Series A” – Artisan (robusto)
Brand: 5 Vegas
Line: Serie ‘A’
Size: Artisan (5×52)
Wrapper: Costa Rican Maduro
Filler: Dominican Republic, Honduras, Nicaragua
The 5 Vegas Serie ‘A’ comes partially wrapped in a thin layer of Spanish cedar. Underneath the cedar is a beautiful dark chocolate, almost black Maduro wrapper. The wrapper is smooth and silky with a little bit of an oily sheen. The stick is well-filled with only a couple of soft spots that do not affect the burn.
Flavor & Cold Draw:
The wrapper gives off the slight odor of vegetation (wheat and alfalfa) with a hint of cocoa. The cold draw gives off a hint of cocoa and an after-taste of pepper. Once lit the flavor is mild and pleasant with hints of cocoa and coffee beans. The second third brings out a subtle taste of caramel and more coffee beans. The final third has a little bit of spice to it, but it is not overwhelming.
Burn & Smoking Characteristics:
The cigar burns very slowly with a total smoking time of 60 minutes. The burn is even, leaving a long salt & pepper ash. The draw is easy and produces lots of flavorful smoke.
The cigar is rated as “full” but I would call it medium at its peak, definitely not a strong cigar. The flavor was gentle but complex. I paired it with a sweet white wine which brought out the underlying sweetness of the cigar. I gave it a rating of 7.5 as I was hoping for a fuller bodied smoke.
