Monte by Montecristo Toro Cigar Construction
For its 2017 IPCPR launch, Montecristo let A.J. Fernandez take the wheel. Rolled in the Tabacalera A.J. Fernandez Cigars de Nicaragua factory, Monte by Montecristo AJ Fernadez is a stronger blend than we usually see from Montecristo. The wrapper is a chocolate brown Ecuadorian grown Habano leaf. Beneath the wrapper is a Nicaraguan Criollo ’98 binder and a filler blend of Nicaraguan Criollo ’98 and Dominican Piloto Cubano long fillers. The length of the six-inch stick is plump and finished with a delicious box press. The cap is thin but neatly mounted. It cuts cleanly with a 9mm punch cutter.
Flavor & Aroma
The pre-light aroma is sweet and spicy with a bit of cocoa. The cold draw open and gives off ample flavors of roasted nuts and clean white pepper. Once lit, the initial flavor is heavy with espresso and white pepper. Notes of cocoa and roasted nuts develop quickly. The flavor remains consistent throughout the rest of the smoke.
Burn & Smoking Characteristics
Monte by AJ Fernandez and Montecristo draws beautifully and produces plenty of thick, rich smoke with each puff. The burn line is slightly uneven but not at all problematic. The burn is slow and steady with a total burn time of over an hour and a half.
Conclusion of the Aging Room Solera Shade Fanfare Cigar
This is a great stick. I love the full, rich flavor profile and the neat box press. It is definitely a must-try.
