This time of year brings many opportunities to celebrate with family and friends. And for a cigar smoker, what’s a celebration without a cigar? New Year’s Eve and 2015 are just around the corner, so why not give you some celebratory sticks to get you started? Below is a list of 5 New Year’s cigars and destinations to go with them.
Las Vegas – While this city seems like a constant party, New Year’s Eve brings out celebrations everywhere. Every hotel, club and restaurant on the strip will offer some type of party package. Davidoff’s Zino Platinum is a classic, classy cigar that would fit a high rolling, Vegas style party perfectly.
How About a Nat Sherman in Times Square?
Times Square – The first New Year’s Eve celebration was held in Times Square in 1904. It was held to commemorate the opening of the new headquarters of the New York Times. The first celebration was an all day affair that started with a street festival and ended at midnight with fireworks being launched from the base of the Times building.
Two years later, the fireworks were banned. In their place, Alfred Ochs, the New York Times owner, commissioned a large, illuminated seven-hundred-pound iron and wood ball to be lowered from the tower flagpole precisely at midnight.
What better cigar to ring in the New Year with than a Nat Sherman 1930 Collection. New York based Nat Sherman’s famous Townhouse is just a few short blocks from Times Square itself!
Or a G.A.R. in “New-Oar-linz?”
New Orleans – There is something for everyone during New Year’s Eve in New Orleans. There are fireworks in the Mississippi River, great food, great live music and parties up and down the French Quarter on Bourbon Street.
A great cigar to match the sights, sounds and flavors of New Orleans is the G.A.R. Opium by George Rico. The G.A.R. is wonderfully complex stick with sweet and savory flavors along with a great burn and construction. The G.A.R. Opium is certainly one of my favorite cigars of all time.
Pop Some Champagne at a Local Hotel!
One of my favorite ways to celebrate New Year’s Eve is a local hotel celebration. The combination party/overnight stay can be a great deal and a safe celebration option. There’s something to be said for a short elevator ride “home” after an evening of drinking and celebrating.
The highlight of the celebration is the champagne toast at midnight. What better cigar to pair with than Perdomo’s Champagne series? This popular Perdomo line is smooth, silky and full of flavor. The Perdomo Reserve 10th Anniversary Champagne is layered with complex flavors of coffee, cream and a hint of sweetness – the perfect mild blend to enjoy at midnight with your champagne toast!
Relax at Home with La Gloria Cubana
For the past several years, my wife and I have opted for a simple home gathering of friends and family to ring in the New Year. Everyone chips in with the food and drink and I get to play bartender at my home bar.
I like to smoke something a little different to start off the New Year. A cigar like the La Gloria Cubana Artesanos de Tabaqueros would be a good choice for me this year. The dual wrapper is eye catching and the cigar brings forth a great combination of flavors.
Toast 2015 with a 5-Pack of 2015 Cigars!
Still not sure what to smoke? Toast 2015 and a clean slate with the Cheap Humidors’ 2015 Cigars. These full strength sticks are the perfect celebratory 5-pack for you and your friends.
No matter where you celebrate New Year’s Eve this year, I wish you all a happy and healthy 2015! Cheers!
