Christmas is coming! How about a drink?
Christmas is right around the corner—seriously it’s the 19th already! You have too much on your mind: holiday shopping, parties, meal preparation, family traditions, and you’re still swamped at work. Also, if you’re living outside of Florida, you’ve had a dose of snow and possibly freezing temperatures. Feel better knowing that it is still warm as usual in the Sunshine State!
As much as we look forward to the holiday season, stress can easily take over and ruin our spirit. Put aside those last-minute gifts for a second and try to relax and enjoy the time off work.
It’s no secret that enjoying a cigar with a drink is relaxing. Instead of pairing a cigar with the usual whiskey or beer, try a holiday cocktail. Tom Ufer, our resident cigar expert, aficionado, and now–cocktail artist, concocted this amazing holiday drink called the Broadleaf Cocktail, which is inspired by bold cigar flavors like the Perdomo Lot 23 Churchill.
Broadleaf Holiday Cocktail Recipe
The Broadleaf Cocktail uses ingredients whose flavors remind me of great cigars. A dark rum was used as the base spirit since it has broad appeal. The chocolate and coffee liqueurs pair well together and offer some complexity. Without bitters, the Broadleaf would not be a proper cocktail. The cream and cinnamon were used to give the Broadleaf Cocktail a holiday look and to help blend the various other ingredients.
What You’ll Need:
- 1 1/2 oz Gosling’s Black Seal rum
- 1/2 oz Trader Vic’s Chocolate liqueur
- 1/2 oz Kahlua
- 2 dashes Angostura Bitters
In a shaker tin with ice, add the rum, liqueur, Kahlua and bitters.
Stir those ingredients until the tin frosts.
Strain the ingredients into a cocktail glass. Using a bar spoon, float a thin layer of cream and garnish with cinnamon.
