A beer that’s caught our attention comes from the folks at Dogfish Head Brewing. The sweet thing about Dogfish is that you don’t have to travel to Rehoboth Beach, Delaware to get a taste of Festina Peche.
This is a mild-kick beer, rolling in at just 4.5% ABV and it practically tastes like summer. Peaches are a major part of this brew. And because of that, the peach sugars are feasted upon by the yeast, so the fruitiness will be enjoyed by the nose and tongue alike.
Festina is known as a neo-Berliner Weisse. That means it’s a tad cloudy and is considered a sour wheat beer. Usually drinkers ramp-down the pungency with raspberry syrup or essence of woodruff. However, since peaches are employed during the fermentation process, it has a natural sweet flavor.
It also has a wheat and raspberry aroma, which create a magic from the first sip. Right off the bat, you think this beer is going to go down like candy. Then, thwap! Here comes the tart taste of raspberries. Right at the end of the first mouthful is when the peaches come into play.
You can tell its Festina Peche by the label. On it are two peach trees with the phrase “malt beverage brewed with peach concentrate.” On the side, the description says the brew is a “neo-Berliner style Weisse fermented with peach juice [that is] so down with the dog days of summer.”
It’s only available in about half of the country. If you’re lucky enough to live in any of the following states, here’s where you can purchase this delightful craft beer:
AZ, CA, CO, CT, DC, DE, FL, GA, IL, KY, MA, MD, ME, MI, NC, NH, NJ, NV, NY, OH, OR, PA, SC, TX, VA, VT, WA.
Festina is available in 4-packs and on draft during the sweaty months.
