Congratulations to the Seattle Seahawks and the New England Patriots for qualifying for Super Bowl XLIX Whether you’re a fan of these teams or not, this matchup is going to be a great one. Clearly after the 4 or 5 week of the season, these were the two best teams in the league. You have two quarterbacks that have both won Super Bowls, outstanding defenses on both sides, and both teams rely on power running games to move the chains. This game definitely will not be a blowout.
I know for the next two weeks every talking head on ESPN or NFL network is going to breakdown this game all the way to who has a better long snapper on the punt team. But in reality there is not much difference in the makeup of these two franchises.
One of the first things that comes to mind when you see this game on paper is Richard Sherman vs. Darrelle Revis, and who is the best cover corner in the league. I am not sure the Patriots or the Seahawks have a clear number one receiver to test either one of them, so this will not do much to end the debate, but it will still be fun to talk about.
Another matchup I am looking forward to seeing is what kind of defensive game plan Belichick will use on the young Russell Wilson. Yes he has won a Super Bowl, but he is still only in his 3rd year in the league and has not seen it all. I have a feeling that the only head coach in the NFL with the moniker of “Genius” will have a few tricks under his hoddie.
As for my prediction on who is winning on February 1st at University of Phoenix Stadium in Arizona, I am going with the same team that I forecasted at the beginning of the year, (pause for drama)…. The New England Patriots 30, Seattle 21.
Key stat in this game will be who turns the ball over the most. When you have two teams this close together talent wise, turnovers are usually the deciding factor. I also think that this is going to be a close game. Tom Brady will do enough against the Seattle defense to win the game, and Russell Wilson will come up just a little short.
Also, here is an off the grid pick for MVP of the game (another pause for drama)…. Julian Edelman. I could see him getting a big punt return or a huge catch to secure the victory for the Patriots.
But let’s get down to another important factor for game day, and that of course is what cigar I plan on lighting up. The Flor del Todo. It’s the perfect smoke to have while you’re in the backyard grilling, or maybe at halftime with the boys. I know there will be one in my hand after the games ends for my usual victory celebration. You can get a great deal on a five pack of Flor del Todo cigars here, and enjoy with me.
Otherwise, what will you be smoking this Super Bowl Sunday? Tell us your Super Bowl XLIX Predictions and score, if anyone gets it perfect I will personally send them a five pack of Flor del Todo cigars on me.AJ’s Smokin’ Sports Corner: Super Bowl XLIX Predictions by Drew Brannen
