Do you happen to have a spare humidor or a few cigar boxes just lying around? You think to yourself, “I should really do something with these cigar boxes I have.”
Well fret no more, because CheapHumidors.com is here to inspire your weighted conscience with another cigar band DIY project that will spruce up any cigar box or humidor. This project is perfect if you are looking to revamp your old humidor and give it some style, or create a decorative gift or storage box out of your spare cigar boxes. Here’s how to decorate a humidor with cigar bands.
What are you waiting for? Grab your cigar bands and let’s get started!
What You’ll Need to Begin
Here’s what you’ll need for this project: the humidor or cigar box you want to decorate, a bottle of Mod Podge, a foam brush, scissors and enough cigar bands to cover your humidor or cigar box.
To start off you will want to figure out the pattern of your cigar bands. We did two layouts: one being diagonal and the other being straight down. Feel free to do whatever pattern your heart desires.
Once you have your pattern figured out, grab your Mod Podge and begin applying. Apply one coat of Mod Podge over your humidor or cigar box and then lay down your cigar bands.
Apply a second coat of Mod Podge over your bands to secure them in place. The product will appear white but will dry clear.
Just Keep Decoupaging!
Continue this process one section at a time, following your pattern until your humidor or cigar box is covered to your liking. You can use the Mod Podge generously, but be careful not to completely overdo it or you could have a lumpy appearance over your cigar bands when it dries.
We also suggest that you apply one thin layer of Mod Podge over the entire area once you are done, so that way your bands will stay in place.
Once you have finished that, set your humidor or cigar box aside and allow it to dry over night. When your humidor or cigar box has dried, take your scissors and trim off the excess cigar bands that are hanging off the edges. This will give your humidor or cigar box a neat professional look.
Now your humidor/cigar box is finished and you are free to use it however you wish! This project can turn any old humidor into an awesome conversation piece. It can turn any old cigar box into an awesome gift box that will leave all your friends impressed.
We must warn you though; once you master this project you won’t be able to stop decoupaging other things. Especially if you have tons cigar bands lying around, you’ll be covering every last surface in your home.
If you have a shortage of bands, well, smoke some more! So you’ll have enough cigar bands to decorate a humidor with cigar bands and for future DIY projects! How to Decorate a Humidor with Cigar Bands by Ted Esposito
