In a recent survey, we found that 35% of the smokers polled use a single flame torch lighter while 26% use a triple flame. So when you’re going to choose a torch lighter, how do you know how many flames you actually need? Here are a few tips on how to find the perfect number of flames for your lighter:
Where are you lighting up?
If you spend the majority of your time lounging in a big, comfy leather chair in the corner of your local cigar bar, you aren’t going to need as much fire power as someone who is fighting 70 mile-an-hour winds on the golf course, trying to play chicken with the incoming hurricane. (Seriously bro, it’s not worth it, back away from the golf clubs and join the rest of us in the bath tub with a bicycle helmet and a comforter wrapped around you.)
How important is fuel efficiency?
We’re not talking about your car; we’re talking about lighters. A single flame torch lighter will use far less butane than a triple flame torch lighter. Think of a single flame torch as the Prius of the lighter world, whereas that quintuple flame lighter we mentioned is the Hummer of the lighter world (super manly looking, but goes through fuel like I go through liquor).
How AWESOME do you want to look while lighting up?
Let’s not pretend that lighters are all about functionality. We all have a little pyro in us, some more than others…like Ted and his crazy lighter flame video (above).
If you want to look like a kick ass SOB at the cigar bar by all means, go big! Get a quad flame lighter! Want to look even more radical? Try a lighter with four RED flames.
Other things to consider…
Once you figure out the number of flames you need, it’s going to be a little easier to shop for a torch lighter. Of course, there are many other factors to consider when you choose a torch lighter. Do you have your heart set on a particular brand? Xikar? Colibri? Zippo? You’ll definitely want to log onto their website to check out warranty information in case something goes wrong.
Do you smoke large ring gauge cigars? Because they can take longer to light, and most of the time, a single torch just won’t do the trick. There are other features that are nice to have such as a fuel window, so you know when you’re getting low and it doesn’t come as a surprise.
As always, you gotta do your research to find the perfect torch lighter for your needs. And why not ask all your cigar smoking friends for their two cents? Maybe you can try out their quad flame lighter to see if you think it’s overkill or essential for your lighter needs.
