Heisenberg had it right. His Uncertainty Principle emphasizes the fact that the more you think you know about one thing the less you will know about the other. So, my advice is: focus on the cigar, not the band it’s wrapped in. What you don’t know won’t hurt you.
Never Judge a Book by Its Cover
People ask me all the time, “What is the best cigar for me to smoke?” My answer always is, “The one you like.” It seems so simple, but we’re always looking to someone else to make our decisions for us. Cigar reviews are designed to give you an idea of what someone thinks about a certain cigar. And, often you recognize that you share similar tastes so their advice becomes valuable to you.
A major publication recently did a taste test of the well known OpusX and an unnamed $5 stick. When ranking the cigars with bands on, smokers gave the Opus a 95% ranking and the unnamed cigar an 89%. But, when neither cigar was banded – a true blind taste test – both cigars were given an equal 90% rating. I certainly am not saying you shouldn’t buy an expensive smoke for special occasions or because you truly enjoy the brand. But, what I would challenge you to remember is that you can get just as much pleasure from a cheaper cigar if it’s your taste preference.
Never Judge a Cigar by Its Band
The six things you should remember about the cigar you like to use as a guide when picking your next smoke: (1) Flavor, (2) Strength, (3) Aroma, (4) Complexity, (5) Balance, and (6) Finish.
I smoked an unbanded cigar that will be included in the sampler we are releasing this week. It had a great burn and great taste. The cigar was good, but you can judge that for yourself. I would love to hear your feedback.
The Lighter: I used the super stylish Colibri Empire Lighter to light this smoke. It’s sleek and full of power. The torch is powerful the fuel window is easy to read. Lots of colors to choose from too.
The Cutter: The Xikar Xi feels good in your hand and is easy to use. This is by far my favorite cutter—always delivers a good clean cut.
