Staff Picks: Kelley Spencer but they call me Spencer (or Spence or Spencey)
Position: Marketing Coordinator
Where did you grow up? I grew up in the “Frozen Tundra” (aka Minnesota). There’s no way I could endure below zero temperatures for the rest of my life when I had an opportunity to live near the beach.
Favorite Candy? It’s gotta have milk chocolate and caramel, so Caramello, Snickers, or Milk Duds are my go to candies.
Animal? On land, dogs, horses and elephants are my favorites. In water, green sea turtles and starfish are the best.
Movie? Another difficult thing to narrow down (if you saw my movie collection, you’d understand). I have to go with two major series that make awesome books and movies: Harry Potter and The Hunger Games.
Band? This is a no brainer for me – it’s Paramore.
Food? Chicken wings, steak and pasta (thanks for making me hungry!)
Sports Team? I’m a hybrid between my home Minnesota teams and Tampa Bay, so the Minnesota Vikings (the Adrian Peterson’s), Minnesota Wild AND Tampa Bay Lightning (I LOVE hockey), US Soccer, the Minnesota Twins and Tampa Bay Rays.
If your house was on fire, what would be the first item you would grab? Besides my family, it would be my laptop or a treasure chest that my grandpa handmade for me before he passed away.
If you were a superhero what powers would you have? I just want to fly so I can travel the world with ease.
If your life had a theme song, what would it be? Firework by Katy Perry or Defying Gravity by Idina Menzel.
If you had a warning label, what would yours say? Warning: sarcasm up ahead.
If you could travel anywhere right now, where would you go? Costa Rica because it’s tropical, has a enormous variety of animals, beautiful landscapes and it’s the perfect destination for adventure.
I may be Minnesotan but I’m definitely not the girl using phrases like “you betcha” and “dontcha know” (although people ask if I’m Canadian like every other day). While I certainly miss things from home (Leeann Chin, Caribou Coffee, cheese curds, the MN State Fair, Honey Weiss, the Mall of America and Skiing to name some), nothing compares to living on the coast and having an extended summer each year; Tampa Bay is pretty awesome.
My day to day duties here involve building and updating products (over 7,000 of them to be exact), managing the blog content (I mean filtering Ted’s dirty mouth), managing our YouTube channels, editing product photography and pinning everything cigar related on Pinterest. Depending on how much “putzing” Ted has been doing in Photoshop or how many times he fell asleep that day, I’ll also help put together the weekly newsletter content.
Oh and did I mention that we are on a strict workout schedule right now? Seriously, we work out (at least the girls do) during the day whether it’s a grueling session of Piyo (yoga & pilates) or a scorching hot run outside.
When I’m away from CheapHumidors, I’m usually reading by the pool or at the beach, taking my two black labs to the park, enjoying Butterbeer at Universal Studios or eating at one of my favorite local eateries with my favorite person on this planet, my husband. I actually worked as a hairstylist & makeup artist for 6 years prior to moving here. I still love the beauty industry but I’ve always been a guy’s girl who loves food, sports, beer and being outdoors, which is essentially why I’m good at my job. Enough about me, here are my picks:
Cigar: Alec Bradley Prensado Robusto – This cigar has long-fillers from Honduras and Nicaragua which produce earthy, chocolatey flavor with hints of spice. I love spicy wing sauce, jalapenos and other spicy food that others cannot tolerate, so I can’t imagine smoking a cigar that wasn’t full flavored and lacked spice.
Cutter: Colibri Slice Double Blade Cigar Cutter – This stainless steel, double guillotine cigar cutter is super easy to use, and it has rubber inlays on the handles for a proper grip, so my accident-prone self won’t chop off a finger.
Lighter: The Hurricane Quad Flame Butane Torch Lighter – Why get a triple torch flame when you can have a quad torch flame? This extra flame gives me the boost I need to light a cigar when I’m boating on the water. I’m partial to the cobalt blue lighter because it reminds me of the water.
Humidor: Humidor Supreme Gangway 25-50 Cigar Humidor – This nautical style humidor has a unique ebony veneer, an awesome porthole window and brass accents with an anchor detail in the corner. It’s definitely one of the coolest humidors I’ve ever seen! Plus, it’s fully loaded with a traditional foam humidifier and front mounted analog hygrometer.Staff Picks and Pix: Spencer by David Sabot
