Cigar: Sol Cubano Culebras
Brand: Sol Cubano (Oliva)
Line: Cuban Cabinet
Size: Culebras (7×38)
Wrapper: Habano Seed Natural
Filler: Honduras/ Nicaragua
Strength: Medium to Full
I loved the groovy culebras twist construction of this cigar. The binding did create some soft spots in the stick that affected the burn in the beginning but it is well worth it for the unique smoking experience. The cigar is very tightly rolled and plump. The wrapper is a lovely chestnut color with small veins. The only down side to its construction is the thin cap.
Flavor & Cold Draw:
The wrapper has a somewhat tangy scent to it. The cold draw brings flavors of tobacco and zesty pepper. The first third has a strong taste of tobacco and pepper that rescinds towards the 2nd third. The cigar’s flavor profile is complex with flavors of earth, oak, leather, and tobacco blended with a bit of pepper.
Burn & Smoking Characteristics:
The unique shape of the cigar caused a slightly uneven burn at the beginning; however it evened out after the first ash. The cigar burned rather quickly, probably because of the smaller ring gauge. The entire cigar took only 45 minutes to smoke. The ash was long (about an inch and a half) and flakey with a beautiful salt and pepper color.
I found this box of Sol Cubano Cuban Cabinet Culebras Cigars shoved in the back of one of the office humidors on my first day of the job. I wanted to smoke one as soon as I laid eyes on it and it certainly did not disappoint. Each bundle of 3 cigars comes in its own cedar coffin. Not only was this cigar deliciously complex, but the fun shape and bundling makes it the perfect cigar to share with your buddies. I give it a strong 8 and recommend it to anyone looking to break out of the norm.
