The Arturo Fuente Sun Grown comes partially wrapped in cedar. The Ecuadorian wrapper is exquisite. It is a beautiful henna brown color with a slight oily sheen to it. The veins are small and the seams are well camouflaged. The cap is perfectly placed and thick, which makes the punch cut easy and crisp. The entire stick is plump and well-filled.
Flavor & Cold Draw:
The pre-light aroma is semi-sweet with a trail of creaminess. The cold draw is mild and sweet with a trace of vanilla on the exhale. Once lit, the flavor profile expands into cocoa beans and a natural sweetness reminiscent of caramel. There is the slightest hint of black pepper on the lips in the first third. In the second third the pepper is replaced by rich, tangy tobacco and notes of earth and almonds.
Burn & Smoking Characteristics:
The cigar burns slowly with a total smoking time of about an hour. The draw is clear and easy and produces clouds of flavorful smoke. The burn is uneven with a final deviation of about an inch. I had to re-light quite a few times to get it evened up.
This cigar was delicious. If it weren’t for the uneven burn it would have usurped the Estilo Cubano as my favorite smoke so far, but alas, the constant re-lighting knocks it down to an 8.
