The Diesel Unholy Cocktail is a small, pyramid shaped cigar and wrapped in a dark, veiny Pennsylvanian Broadleaf. The wrapper leaf is a dark mink color with a slight oily sheen to it. The length of the stick is firm and plump but there are a couple of noticeable soft spots towards the foot. The cap is tapered into a perfect point and cuts easily.
Flavor & Draw:
The pre-light aroma is dark and earthy with notes of cedar and dark chocolate. The cold draw is clear and open and gives off gentle flavors of sweet spice and cedar. Once lit the stick takes on a strong earthy flavor with a lot of cedar. The earthy flavor is quickly joined by a bit of pepper and a hint of anise. The final third sees a loss of the peppery flavor which is replaced by a smoky hickory flavor.
Burn & Smoking Characteristics:
The Diesel has an absolutely perfect draw and produces tons of flavorful smoke with each puff. The burn is quick and a bit uneven with one side canoeing up the length about ½”. The flakey white ash grows to about an inch before the first drop and then drops often, about every ½”. The total smoking time is 55 minutes.
After about a year of seeing this stick constantly praised on cigar forums I decided to give it a try. I have to admit, it deserves all the hype. The Diesel Unholy Cocktail is a cocktail of complex, mouthy flavors. It is a full strength, full flavor stick that was right up my alley. It makes for a nice, quick evening smoke.
