Hi I’m Nada with SmokingCigarGirl and today I’m going to be reviewing the Calle Ocho Churchill. This is a 7×50 cigar with a Sumatra wrapper and a binder and filler from Nicaragua. The wrapper is a little toothy and mottled. There’s a bit of a barnyard odor to the foot of the cigar and a very distinct cocoa flavor on the cold draw. There’s definitely a hit of sweet flavor on the front of the palette at the start of the cigar and that gives way to a somewhat woodsy finish, but the sweetness tends to linger on the palette for a little bit.
The First Third of the Calle Ocho Churchill
The sweet flavor on the front of the palette really faded away after the first third into the cigar and gave way to more of an herbal note on the front of the palette. The finish has a mostly woodsy flavor but the herbal notes on the front of the palette melt into the finish as well. The cigar so far has an excellent draw, not too tight not too loose, and the burn line is very even; no issues on the burn so far.
The Second Third of the Calle Ocho Churchill
The second third of the cigar has had mostly salty flavors on the front of the palette with some nutty undertones and the finish carries over some of that saltiness with a little bit of pepper and still some of the woodiness from the first third. The draw is still great on this cigar and the burn is mostly even. I haven’t had to relight or touch up the cigar at all.
The Final Third of the Calle Ocho Churchill
The final third of the Calle Ocho Churchill has had mostly salty and nutty notes as in the second third but now a bitter note creeps in every once in a while. The finish is mostly woodsy at this point with an occasional peppery note. The cigar overall has drawn and burned wonderfully, no touch-ups or re-lights and the ash has held on, for the most part. It’s a very solid ash, holds until I tap it out.
Conclusion of the Calle Ocho Churchill
The cigar has been medium to full-bodied, lots of rich flavors in the cigar but I’d say probably a medium strength cigar at best, so probably a good first cigar of the evening.
